Life is full of stress. And it doesn’t seem to be getting any less challenging… for anybody… any time soon. Along with relentless stress within the body, mind, and spirit are also added environmental toxins, such as impacts from technology and other pollutants. As we adapt and evolve to our ever-changing environment, we must also hone our ability to relax and counter these mounting forces peacefully within ourselves.
Many studies have revealed that anxiety can be dramatically reduced by physical activity and meditation practices. Not only do they relieve pain and tension, but they offer countless additional physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits, as well. Since walking is one of the easiest physical activities we can do, there is no wonder that walking is an excellent coping mechanism for all that ails contemporary society.
Many of our most common coping techniques can be quite harmful, such as numbing ourselves with alcohol, food, drugs, TV, etc., or even riskier behaviors. Others include avoidance and isolation from situations and people. By learning and practicing beneficial strategies to manage these strange and often difficult times, we are adding years to our lives and bringing in the potential for great joy!
