After the initial build out, I sanded all the surfaces and applied a coat of polyurethane. After a few hours I repeated the process and applied a second coat. In hindsight, I am glad I did this because these surfaces get a LOT of wear and after a few trips around the southeast, they still look as good as the day she was built.
The next step was to measure all interior spaces for storage. In this photo you can see I sketched the main compartments that would contain storage bins and measured everything. Height is particularly important with finite spaces. I took this sketch with me to Lowes, Home Depot and Walmart looking for the perfect bins to maximize the storage space. I ended up with plastic tubs of every size to fit every little nook and cranny.
The configuration I came up with was a process that has changed many times and may yet again. I already had a good idea of what items would generally go where (i.e. clothes under the bed area, kitchen items in the back, etc). But staying open and creative keeps this “work in progress” fun and exciting!
