The calendar may have flipped over to January 2024, but I am still savoring the absolute fullness of this past year. I am not quite ready to jump head-first into the newness of all that stands before us… beckoning us with promises of renewed novelty. 2023 still has a firm grasp on me, pleading for just a few more moments to relish fading memories before obsolescence sets in…

I am in what I am calling a creative void at the moment. It’s neither good nor bad but a place of vague neutrality with a slight hint of indifference. I keep reminding myself it is a divine expression of the ongoing process of being present. I know it’s up to me to capture the magic in each moment. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t be writing about this if I hadn’t noticed a similar experience with others around me. The anti-climactic space of post-holiday festivities can leave one in a state of monotony. I keep coming back to simply embracing the void. I am to accept and just BE in this space, even if it lacks inspiration, passion, or enthusiasm.

But it isn’t just mental, is it? Giving in to the ever-present temptation to partake in holiday goodies can leave us feeling heavy, sluggish, and uncomfortable. In addition, many of us have much processing to do after spending time with loved ones over the past couple of weeks. No matter whether you have a heaviness that is physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual… gently moving your body by taking a walk in nature can help immensely. My daily walks have been the central source of my peace and healing… and much-needed Self-Care during the holiday season.

Post-holiday blues are standard fare after the cumulative hubbub of the end of the year. Forget New Year’s Resolutions. Although there are thousands of reasons to go for a walk, releasing stress, re-centering ourselves, and letting go of Christmas cookie addictions are timely reasons to add this practice to your day.

I invite you into the void. Let’s take a walk…  Inspiration, happiness, and health are only a few steps away.

Namaste
