Amicalola Falls State Park in Dawsonville, GA is a true treasure among state parks. Not only home to Georgia’s highest waterfall at 729,’ but it also features 175 stairs zigzagging up the waterfall to the very top, where you will find the famous Amicalola Lodge. The State Park is also the southernmost terminus of the 2,190 mile Appalachian Trail, with the “AT Approach Trail” beginning right outside the backdoor of the Visitor Center. Not for the faint of heart, this park contains a myriad of trails that will get your heart beating and your mouth agape (especially after all the rain we have had in the area this season!) It is truly phenomenal.
I was fortunate enough to spend the day in this beloved place scouting out venues and special spots to host my brand new 6-hour workshop, “Become an Expert Day-Hiker Masterclass.” In this exciting day-long course, we will be learning everything you need to know to be a totally well-prepared day-hiker. We will be covering every topic from personal safety, first aid, and awareness, to clothing and gear, head to toe…literally… and everything in between. After the first session, we will hike up to the lodge for a delicious buffet lunch at the Maple Restaurant, where you will find absolutely stunning views of the southern Blue Ridge Mountains.
This workshop is inspired by decades of learning things the hard way (…uh, ok sometimes…the really hard way) and is an exciting combination of nearly three decades of personal experience and knowledge in an EASY to learn way! Course dates will be announced soon. Until then… happy and safe hiking!
