My Story: A Journey of Transformation
I have always been a curious seeker of adventure—the more magical and mysterious, the better. As a young girl, I was most alive when outside, deep in some kind of imaginary, thrilling venture. Those early days, filled with wonder and play, became the roots of a path that would lead me to reclaim the wild, sacred rhythm of life. The twists and turns of my story have not always been easy, but every experience has woven wisdom and strength into the woman I am today.
Naturally rebellious and fiercely independent, I carved my own path from the start. I struggled with emotional pain, body image issues, and addiction early in life. By college, I had tried every fad diet, miracle pill, and weight-loss gimmick known to humankind, joining the ranks of many whose weight goes up and down like a rollercoaster, seemingly forever. My weight fluctuated dramatically. I lost and regained over 50 pounds three times before hitting a personal rock bottom. I was considered “morbidly obese.”
At age 26, disgusted and depressed, and all on my own, I conquered my worst addictions- quitting alcohol, smoking, hard drugs, and losing over 100 pounds- which all began with simply taking a walk. Every day. (And yes, a ridiculously enthusiastic Richard Simmons VHS tape may have played a small but fabulous role.) What I discovered, however, was that the real journey was not just physical. It was a journey to self-love.
Years later, having rebuilt my health and life, I entered the world of diamonds and gemstones, earning my Graduate Gemology degree and working in the family business. Outwardly, I was successful. I had a loving husband, a respected career, a beautiful home. But deep inside, something fundamental was missing. My spirit ached for more.
Nature had always called to me. My passion for getting outside to hike and leading others into the wilderness truly motivated me. So, I decided to walk away from it all to open and operate a hiking and backpacking store in the north Georgia mountains.
I thought this was the answer to all my problems, but something was still missing from my life. I kept thinking to myself, “Where is the Magic?” The 9-6 workaday world – indoors – felt like a cruel life sentence suffocating my wild spirit.
I finally listened to that calling. I left behind the comforts and securities of a conventional life—the business, the house, the marriage—to follow the wilderness within. In 2009, I sold everything and set out to thruhike the 2,188-mile Appalachian Trail.
My life changed forever on that cold March day. At the top of Springer Mountain, I began a journey that would test me to my core; six months of the most arduous journey I had ever known… and the most rewarding. I learned to trust myself. To rise after falling. To listen to the wind, the trees, the whisper of my own heartbeat.
So, what started as a grueling physical test of endurance, turned into a gratifying system of whole health- mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. When I arrived six months later at the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, Mount Katahdin, my journey was only just beginning… I was no longer the same woman who began it. I had awakened to a deeper truth: the way forward is inward. I knew in that moment that I could, in fact, do anything.
From there, my path became a pilgrimage. I followed my intuition to Peru, where I immersed myself in the mystical arts of yoga, energy medicine, shamanic healing rituals, and ancient Incan magic. Peru cracked my heart wide open. I discovered divine guidance that had lived in me all along, waiting to be remembered.
My journey then led me to Thailand, where I studied ancient feminine wisdom and ceremonial rites in a modern-day mystery school. There, through the sacred art of Mystical Dance, I fell in love with my body for the first time. I began to understand the divine feminine not as a concept, but as a living, breathing force within me.
Later, I found myself in India, living in an ashram and diving deep into the transformative practice of Traditional Tantra Yoga. In the quiet of temple rituals and the discipline of daily sadhana, I cultivated the power of sacred self-discipline and the joy of devotion. In Nepal, I walked among the Himalayas, absorbing the raw, ancient energy of the mountains. Trekking through remote villages and towering peaks, I was reminded once again that the Earth is alive, and we are her beloved children. I returned to Nepal for my birthday in 2022, fulfilling a long-held dream to trek to Mount Everest base camp.

Having spent multiple seasons as a Ridgerunner on the Appalachian Trail and bringing that knowledge into words—through articles, my published book, a forthcoming book, and the Ridgerunner Handbook—I move through life with the Earth’s wisdom woven into each step. My daily walks remain my most sacred practice: a way to reconnect, to awaken clarity, and to listen to the quiet guidance that lives beneath the noise.
Here’s what I know to be true: Transformation doesn’t happen all at once. It unfolds slowly, step by step, mile by mile, season by season. The strength, the wonder, the wildness you’re seeking? It already lives within you. I’m just here to help you remember it.
Whether you’re walking to the mailbox or preparing for a multi-day trek through the mountains, your journey is waiting. It is my greatest joy and divine mission to walk beside you as you reclaim your most powerful, authentic self.
With love and wild wonder,
