Can you tell in your joints when the weather changes? Do you get achy knees or shoulders when storms are approaching? This is due to rapid atmospheric pressure changes, which affect the body’s internal air pressure. When a weather system advances suddenly, the air pressure outside lowers. The spaces within the body, within the cells, have a higher air pressure, which can feel like aches and pains. Any areas within the body where there is inflammation, especially where there has been a prior injury, can feel the difference in air pressure, sometimes quite acutely.
It can seem counterintuitive, but the best remedy for this (in addition to lowering the amount of inflammation in the body) is movement. Walking is one of the best ways to regulate the body’s internal systems with external conditions. Just like chewing gum on a pressurized airplane, when your ears sense the dramatic change, the motion can release excess pressure from the body.
Adding a simple walk to your daily practice can reduce aches and pains quite noticeably. In addition to a long list of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits, walking can alleviate a myriad of everyday discomfort. Join me for a Walk in the Wild Wood to experience the hidden wonders of nature and a whole health panacea…
